Chop the onions and garlic, sauté in a wide pan with two tablespoons olive oil.
Lay the artichokes and peeled pearl onions onto the chopped onions. Add the sugar, salt, two tablespoons olive oil and cook for a few minutes, flipping over the artichokes.
Add the boiling water and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the artichokes soften.
Allow the artichokes to cool in the pan and transfer to a serving plate.
Place the chopped avocado and cooked onions inside the artichokes and serve.
You may also serve with fava inside the artichokes.
Serve warm or cold.
